Guest guest
Has anyone experienced electric volt like pains in their big toe? Wow! All of a sudden beginning yesterday, I have these pains that come and go in my big toe. When they hit it feels as if electricity struck or a spider bit my toe. Really weird. They do not last long but have continued on and off now for 24 hours. The pain stops me dead in my tracks and then leaves just as quickly. It seems to me that it would be a nerve issue. Any suggestions?????????? Karon
Guest guest
I had similar symptoms when I had a herniated disk in my back. You might want to get that checked by your general doctor. Pinched nerves are not fun.

Guest guest
Karon I have had these pains regularly. They started in my toes, now they are in my calves of my legs. My neurologist told me this was a sign my nerves were suffering and possibly dying which he says is all part of the CMT process. Neurontin helps relive these pains but not the accute ones that hit me. I learned to breathe through them just like you breathe through labor pain. Self hypnosis is very helpful too. Guest guest
Karon, I get the same thing. Especially at night when I'm trying to fall asleep. It definitely feels like a spider bite. Ouch! A.
Guest guest
I get electrical pains like this from time to time and just chalked it up to a CMT symptom. It sounds a little weird, but what it always reminds me of is the old episode of Gilligan's Island where the voodoo man had the dolls made for each person on the island and he stuck pins in the bottoms of feet of Gilligan's doll. The pin sticking made Gilligan jump and sort of dance around in pain. Not sure if any of you remember that episode, but every time I have that 'pin sticking' nerve pain I always think 'someone's working on my voodoo doll'. :-) For me the pains don't come very often, maybe once a month or so, but they always occur multiple times. I'll be sitting there and have a sharp jabbing pain in my foot that lasts a few seconds and then it goes away only to return a minute or so later. When I was on Neurontin it never seemed to help the electrical pains.... ~
Guest guest
I found that these shooting pains in the toes started if my feet were the slightest bit cold. As I said previously my CosySoles heated slippers have really helped this problem. now I can sleep at night. It used to be like torture all night long. For all members with CMT wishing to order CosySoles we will offer a special discount of $10 off the Regular price. Guest guest
That's interesting . I thought it was probably a nerve pain. Makes sense that it is deterioration...............my feet are really wasting away. karon

Guest guest
So far, the metaphor has been either an electric shock or a spider bite. Maybe it's because I've never been bitten by a spider, but I find it more a shock. In fact, I always described it as something like being touched by a cattle pod--usually twitch involuntarily and unfortunately waking my wife. And yes, they always seem to come in multiples, and always when I am asleep. After the first, it is like waiting for the next boot to drop, as there are always at least 3 or 4. Does anyone have any definitive explanation for these? Jack
Guest guest
Jack, Someone posted that the shocks happen because it is the foot nerves' last attempt to charge the muscle, since the foot is in it's final stage of atrophy. Sounds like that might be the cause and it makes sense to me. I walk very well but when I look at my foot, it is wasting away and just recently I experienced those shocks. It really scared me because they kept coming every five minutes for about a day and a half. Then they suddenly disappeared. Wonder when they will come back?????????????? Guest guest
I have the same problem and take 4 mg of CLONAZEPAM per day. The medication helps a lot but is highly addictive. I let myself run out for 5 days before I could get more and it was the worst thing I have ever been through. I even considered suicide. I have no family to turn to. Maybe that would help.
