Guest guest
Dear , Many years ago I a friend loaned me her spike heels and had me practice walking up and down the hallway in the nurses residence,as she was convinced all I had to do was practice. After watching me for a few a week give it all I had while grabbing the wall the entire way, rubbing my poor balls of my feet after, SHE GAVE UP. I tried and tried when she was not there but to no avail. I had no idea why I was not like the rest and only could wear slightly high heels but no way high high ones. It was not until I was past 50 that I was diagnosed. LIGHT BULB MOMENT! After a spinal cord injury and bilateral triple arthrodesis I use a cane after the wheelchair I was in for a few years. The vitamin C has straightened my toes, however, and I do feel as if I have much more energy. How far I will progress with the additional spinal cord damage, who knows. But I keep popping the Vit. C. Now I wear only Birkenstocks. They provide me with alot of stability. However, I get pedicures routinely, lovely polish, and they decorate the big toes a tad. Oh yes, let me not forget to mention the toe rings. The ladies at church have even taken off there shoes to show me that they are copying me. No heels, but when I look down I see a little " gold " and polished toes. I guess it does not take much to make me smile. Take care and God Bless you as you make the best that we are given. (a little gold helps!!) Candy

Guest guest
I donated all my beautiful high heels to Goodwill when I got my AFOs 2 years ago. I was only 44 at the time. I miss those days when I was still working and wore professional clothes (and heels) to the office. The outfits just don't look the same with New Balance shoes on my feet. I guess now one of the " finer " things in life is just being able to walk at all. The dressy shoes and clothes are now just a memory, but they were fun while they lasted. Oh, the things I used to take for granted. K.
Guest guest
Candy: You go girl! I'll try a little of that gold paint on the toe nails. I may even try a jewel or two. Since I have joined this group I feel 100% better. My right foot does an auto rotate due to the bone damage, but I look forward to sandals and shoes after the podiatrist lets me out of these una-boots. I'm sure these are a part of the dark ages and the torture chambers, only then they used bricks and twine (tee hee) to attach these to your feet. To all those reading this, please continue on about shoes and AFOs. I am getting a real education and I thank you for that.
