Guest guest
Hi everyone. I just wanted to share my good news! After 3 years, two attempts at an ankle fusion and lots of pain, I just went for my last visit to my orthopoedic surgeon and he released me from his care. The ankle is completely fused, I have a toe-off brace for the other leg which I love because it is light weight and pretty comfortable. I feel better than I have in at least 10 years! I am hiking all over the campus at Fayetteville for Razorback games, dancing the nite away with my beloved husband and basically just really enjoying my life again. I understand that he didn't " cure " my CMT, but he certainly provided me with the means to cope with it and I am just very thankful. I just wanted to say thank you for all the support I get with this group and share my happiness with you all.
Guest guest
, So happy for you that it worked out for you and you and your husband are able to enjoy life together! I too wear the Toe Off brace on both of my legs, though for me, it is not working as well as I would like. It is really a nice brace because it allows the back of your leg to move and hopefully use those muscles. My doctor at Hopkins never even heard of Toe Off and I introduced it to him. Unfortunately I am not a candidate for the fusion surgery because I have bilateral weakness on both legs and there is nowhere for them to fuse bad with good. Keep on dancing! Guest guest
Thanks Jackie! I had the fusion because of a really bad fall that just tore up all the tendons and ligaments and it was a last ditch effort sort of thing. I don't think I would try it just for improvement in stability or such. Have you considered an Arizona brace? That is what was originally prescribed for me, but the tech at the orthotics lab talked to me and watched me walk and then recommended the Toe-Off. You are right tho, if I had a bilateral " roll " as he called it, the toe-off wouldn't have worked. The Arizona looked to be the next best option and would work for bilateral weakness according to the tech at Snell. Good luck. I hope you find something that works!
