I tried Crocs and that didn't work..I once had New Balance but now I need a lift

on one shoe...my metal braces wouldn't work with a tennis shoe any way I don't

think...I beginning to think I'll just wear slippers. Like I have been. I was so

excited about new braces after all this time..I really dislike them so far. They

even tangle into each other........I still recovering from the sole falling off

my shoe..the one with the lift..Nearly killed myself...Leg is still a bit

swollen.

Perhaps we just should decorate the shoe box's and wear them...my feet are as

wide as long ..almost LoL..

Thank you

I would NEVER recomend them to anyone!! I have a $3,000 pair in my closet...like

new. I hate them!!! If you like the feeling of lugging around cement bricks on

each foot then you will do fine!

Geri,

I don't know what your braces are made out of but my metal braces don't really

weigh that much more than my plastic braces. Most metal braces these days are

made out of alloys that are fairly light but strong. Not sure what happened to

yours. Maybe they are steel, not sure. But for AFOs, there shouldn't be that

much difference, its just not that much metal. With less skin contact many

people like metal braces better.

Where I live we have hot humid summers. Metal braces are much better than hot

sticky plastic ones. I see new metal braces a lot. The guy who runs the cheese

shop at my grocery store had on a new pair of metal braces the other day. I

don't know what his problem is but he had metal braces on. If they were so heavy

I doubt that people would be getting them here. The original mother I was

writing to was having problems with her kid getting sores and callouses due to

the footplates he had to wear in his shoes. With metal braces you don't have

those footplates.

With AFOs there is not that much difference in weight between plastic and metal

braces. There is just not that much metal. Some plastic braces can be heavy if

they have metal ankle joints or aren't cut out for ventilation.

I missed the previous post here, so my comment may be irrelevant.

I have long-leg, metal braces, which weigh 5 lbs. each. I have had plastic

before, and they suck. As in, they are not durable. Even at 5 lbs. each, they

give me a small window of independence, and allow me to stand up (which is

incredibly important for the body), and I wouldn't have anything else. Well,

besides a pair of legs that actually worked, that is. ;-)

The metal braces I wore for ten years from weighed a ton. They also

broke often and had to be welded which likely made them steel? It's

good that the new ones are light.

I dont know what my braces are made of but they are cumbersome and heavy....even

five lbs each is to heavy for me. Have trouble walking as it is.

I wear carbon fiber AFOs with well-made built-in orthotics, and I

absolutely love them. (As a kid, I was unhappy with my plastic AFOs,

and if I'd had metal braces I think I'd have felt even more alienated

than I already did.)

hi, as i stated in another post on this subject, i kinda got strayed off the

subject. But i can't wear my braces, they are just very uncomfortable, and i have

a Hard time trying to find shoes to fit them in. i cannot wear any shoes with an

arch already in them, they seem to throw me more off-balance than i already am.

i don't know the reason for this, but it is this way for me. the plastic really

does hurt my feet. and i can't wear ANYTHING that is anywhere remotely heavy at

all, what might not be heavy to the avg person is like a ton to me, i guess this

is my legs getting weaker?

i really don't know? any suggestions, would be wonderful, i guess it's time i

make another appt with the specialist who " cut out " my braces to see what he can

do to them to make them better. i don't have the $$ to buy a special pair of

shoes for them to fit into.. i already live on disability and they don't expect

you to live, well.. ;)

oh well, as i said, any suggestions i would be grateful for them. take care and

GOD BLESS .. and to Benjy i am happy to hear that you have something that you

can actually put to use.. and be comfortable in.. thats truly wonderful news.

When I had plastic braces they always took the arches out of the shoes. I also

had to go in for adjustments until they got everything right, they told me that

was something that had to be done...They were molded like the bottom of my foot

I never had a callous and they were comfortable but it took some time.

But it was worth it.
