Having found a part kit list on a site somewhere about 12 months ago, I

would be interested to know if the UN has a standard kit list requirement

for their medics, what is in it component wise and what level it is actually

at as regards FR, EMT or above?

,

I have an approved list taken from the UN Demining programme guidelines

that I helped to develop with a chap called Paddy Blagden who was heading

up the programme when it started in 1994 ish. I dare say that the list has

been updated over time but it lays out the basic equipment lists and also

the training standards for mines team medics.

I have been trying to access the site but cannot seem to get into the

standards page. You may wish to try the site at http://www.mineaction.org/

Let me know how you get on. I can always forward a hard copy when I get

home.

Regards,

Tim

Hi, not sure about medic kit list, but there is a standard disaster

relief stock/pallet.

Hmm, nope, those are just the recommended mix for medical supplied.

Though there are plenty of agencies with quick deployment packs.

As far as I ma aware, voluntary, but open to correction.

Can't comment for other services, but generally would still need to go

through full tech training. Any additional training is always

worthwhile as prep for the tech course, which has a lot crammed into it

(more every year).

Cheers

Much obliged for the reply, I take it you mean that if there is a major

disaster somewhere in the world that the UN has stocks for almost immediate

follow up, along the lines of FEMA in the US?

Do we have a central disaster organisation for overseas or are they all

voluntary bodies?

Incidentally while you are on, are the new BTEC quals at ALSC of any value

towards ambulance training while with PTS before applying for tech training

on the 999 side, these have changed from the ones I was originally pursuing.

The new ALSC site is not bad either compared to the older version.

Much obliged again

JC
