Guest guest
Laurie, you wrote " I heard alcohol can be toxic to this disease " . Yes, it certainly can and I have 9 years of using it as proof. Part of my story with this was in the Summer Issue of Quest http://www.mdausa.org/publications/Quest/q114subabuse.cfm Even if doctors said alcohol and other substances would arrest CMT, there is no way I'd return to using. My life is so wonderful now, with no problems or drama. I have experienced reinnervation and I believe this is from living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding alcohol, etc. Please take care with the alcohol, especially with the mix of medications. Guest guest
Gretchen, Thank you so much for your story. I am at work right now but I printed it out and will read it this evening when I get home. I really appreciate having this message board, so many questions and sometimes doctors don't feel like they have to time to call you back. Guest guest
In the past I have drank alot. In retrospect, I think it was because I had that fatigued " beaten-down " feeling alot and drinking seemed to put me in a better mood. However, since I have not been working I have also not been drinking and I feel much better. I don't know how to explain it, but alcohol somehow gave me a weak, sickly feeling (in the days after drinking, more so than just a " hangover " ). This is how my neurologist explained it to me: He said " I have patients that see me because they have neuropathy resulting solely from extended alcohol use. These people don't have a neurological disease or disorder, but they have done neurological damage by drinking too much over a long period of time. " This gave me an idea of how bad it is for someone who already has a neurological problem. Rob
