Guest guest
, I have been out of circulation for a while, and was trying to catch up when I read your reply mentioning scoliosis. I was just wondering if that was from the CMT? My dad who has CMT had scoliosis also, but he never knew what caused it. Maybe I can give him a bit more insight? Guest guest
, My sister and I both have CMT and both of us have scoliosis. My neurologist said scoliosis is often seen with persons that have CMT. Becky
Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for your reply. I am not sure about the exact degree of my scoliosis but it was more than 50 or about 60 degrees. I was operated after I graduated high school in 1999, this was for the steel implant which serves as my brace. So the degree of curvature won't worsen. But on 2003 i was operated again because the steel did not fuse with my spine, it moved and it got infected. So the doctor had to cut that steel part and made a bone graph. Now I think i'm ok, lol. About my CMT, i dont have much knowledge about it. I don't even know what type of CMT I have.. fred
Guest guest
hi kerry, didn't you have a steel implant for your scoliosis? it will not cure but it will prevent the curvature to worsen. i already have a steel implant, i'm used to it, only that my mobility is really limited. fred

Guest guest
Hi Fred/... Gavin has the start of scoliosis but we were recently very pleased to see that some of the curve was due to imbalance in the tightness of his hamstrings. Now that we've put extra effort into keeping his hamstrings loose the degree of curve has reduced. Apparently it can pull you to one side out of alignment. We still have to monitor the remaining curve...hopefully it changes slowly... Cheers Sally
Guest guest
I remember my mother getting after my sister to stand up straight and hold her shoulders back. Now in her late '50s, she's very stooped from scoliosis. You might want to have your daughter checked for that. O

Guest guest
I had scoliosis as a preteen. I had to do certain exercises to strengthen my back. Never had to have the surgery. I will never forget my orthopedic doctor telling my mother that I would have difficulty with child birth. I think I was 12 then. I did indeed have trouble, having to have csections with both boys. Guest guest
I believe that 26% of people who have scoliosis also have CMT. One of many ways CMT can be diagnosed.
