Guest guest
Jackie, I have a similar problem not only with the size of my shoes, (also a size 5), but with weight and also the fact that I can't wear ANY heel due to the way this pair of AFOs was made. A recommendation would be to try boys shoes in a size 3, (the same as a woman's size 5), and try wrestling shoes. They may not be the prettiest shoe, but they have a flat, rubberized sole that grips really well on bare floor surfaces, (no slipping due to coming down heel first in an AFO), they are light in weight, and you can find boys' sizes for as little as $20 or so make by Nike, Adidas, and others. I have been wearing them for years now and prefer the basic black to coordinate with more clothing. The other thing I like about them is they are a taller shoe, (just above the ankle) and really conceal the AFO with long pants on. You can typically find them in any large sporting goods store like an MC Sorts, Sports Connection, etc... I've seen them online but never buy shoes online if I've never tried them before because they all fit so differently and if I end up with a pair with any heel to them I'll pitch forward on my face. :-) I like in my wrestling shoes in public and around the house for lounging I have a pair of moccassins with no sole to them and a zipper up the back. During the summer I wear the mocs outside quite often and they feel really nice and light and almost like not wearing anything other than my AFO. Hope this helps. p.s. and yes, I too would love to be able to wear sandles and flip flops and 'cute' shoes. I've had 'shoe envy' for years!
