Guest guest
Hello all, Spy, I had to chuckle about the heels. I tried to wear them when I was younger, never could master standing up to well. Guess that was the CMT, but we didn't know I had it then. I had a pair of clogs, very high, I fell off of them and thought I had broken my ankle ! Needless to say as I grew older I tried to get away with wearing flat shoes. I have had so many surgeries on my feet. The last one was last week. I was getting ulcers on the bottoms of my feet due to the pressure and no padding due to the surgeries. He went in the top of my foot and lifted and shifted one of my metatarsal bones. I have stitches on the top and bottom of my foot. Hopefully this will help to eleviate the problem. Guest guest
I had foot surgery in September to correct a Charcot foot condition (and yes, I have CMT as well) and fuse the foot. The hospital billed $25,000, the insurance company allowed $8,500. Because it was a medically necessary, non-emergency surgery, my portion was $0. I've never heard any more about it, so I guess they worked it out. O
Guest guest
I thought I would throw my 2 cents in.I had surgery done on my right foot about 15 years ago. The surgey was major. They pulled a tendon from my leg to my big toe to stop the foot drop, completely sraightened out the bones that had been " sliding " over and deforming my foot to the pint that my small toe bones were sticking out and causing excruciating pain on the side of my foot. All of this was corrected. Now, my left foot is doing the same thing and causing severe discomfort. If I had the time (3-4 months) and the money (Medicare covered it before) I would do it again without any hesitation. I would like to recommend Dr. Sigvard Hanson of Harborview Medical center here in Seattle. He's a wiz. But, he is a surgeon. He is very up front and abrupt with what he does and will tell you that he is a surgeon, not a psychotherapist. The CMT will continue and that is something to deal with. Meanwhile he can make things a little easier. He also did a thumb surgery on my sister's hand. She can now use her thumb. He did not restore the muscle tissue that was lost, but did something with the tendon. Defman
Guest guest
I've had three surgeries, one on the left and two on my right foot. I'm having the big one done before long too. I've decided to wait until late fall. I would rather be layed up in the winter. I'm nervous about it but I'm thinking positive. It's my opinion when any of us get to the point we look forward to it then it's time. I think about all the shoes I can't wear now (no guarantee I will afterwards) but it gives me something to look forward to. I have not gone to the mall with my family in so long now. I want to do that. I would like to start walking with my neighbors in the afternoons. I used to do all these things, until the pain got too bad (not to mention my feet would swell out of my shoes). I don't want to continue hiding my feet because I think they are soooo ugly. I wish you the best in whatever decision you make. For me, I'm ready. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ We won't tell.
