Guest guest
Hi there. I have not written in while but I always read the posts and I am so thankful for all the info that this forum provides.I am wondering if anyone has had much success after have a tendon transfer. My left foot is getting so weak and the doctor said this is an option for me. Im scared. I am going back for my masters next fall and , since I am off in the summer time, I would like to have the surgury done then. Its just such a big decision, I dont want to make any mistakes. Thanks, Pam O
Guest guest
Pam, I had the tendon surgery about 42 years ago and haven't needed any foot surgery since. So I'd say it was successful. Any surgery is scary. Make a list of questions for your doctor, make sure you understand the foot anatomy and how long you'll need to be off your feet, etc. I had both feet done at the same time, in the summer. Had plaster casts for 6 to 8 weeks - seemed like a lifetime, but I am happy my parents got me to the right physician. I hope you have had a second opinion on this. Have you tried any orthotics or physical therapy? Yes, surgery is a big decision - CMT foot surgery isn't exactly " routine " foot surgery, but in the hands of a knowlegeable physician, you should have success. Guest guest
Pam, I too am in land and would love to talk directly to you. Who do you see at Mercy Hospital? there is a great doctor either there or at Union Memorial who I went to but was not a candiate for the tendon transfer and I seem to have bilateral weakness on both feet. What do you hate about the orthotics? There are so many different types out there, that maybe you just did not try the right ones. Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Im sorry, I dont live in maryland. Its a long story but I come to Baltimore to see a breast dr @ Mercy,Dr Friedman. My mother had breast cancer and he was her Dr for a long time (she past away 3 years ago). Anyway, I am from Pa. near town. Oddly enough I found Dr Jeng on the internet and discovered he was @ the same hosp. as Friedman. Who is the doc you know @ Mercy? Have you heard anything good about Jeng? Why are you not a canidate for a tendon transfer?I have bilateral weakness also but my L FOOT IS SO MUCH WORSE. I dont like my orthos because I feel they dont really help me that much, I am an OT and all my PT friends swear by them but I just dont feel they give me the support i need. The ones I ordered are for dress shoes. Have a great night, PAM
