Guest guest
Hi everyone, My CMT is the type that has pressure palsy with it. That is, if I lean on a hand for a while, it will go numb for months. If I am kneeled down balanced on my toes, they will go numb for months. I'm thinking there is a chance you were simply on your feet too much and they went numb. I doubt there is anything that will help that until it just goes away on its own. At least that has been my experience. Bob in Indy
Guest guest
Bob- Thanks for the input. I''ve never heard of pressure palsy before but just did a quick search online for information. When I went to Dr. Shy and his team in Detroit two or three years ago they could not determine what type of CMT I have. All the genetic tests came back negative. My numbness had just started a short time prior to me seeing them for testing and it was all thought to be caused from a repeated exposure to neurotoxic chemicals during remodeling and the effect those chemicals had on my already damaged nerves. There is a huge corollation between the numbness and the strength in my legs. When my feet and legs are numb I'm so unstable on my feet that it's scary to walk anywhere. The tips of my fingers have also been going numb this past week and it's making holding things and touching things uncomfortable and difficult. The strange thing for me is how quickly the numbness comes on. I was sitting in a chair last week after having virtually no numbness for months and all of a sudden my feet, legs and fingertips started getting numb. I was trying to think of whether or not I had come into contact with anything out of the ordinary and the only two things I can think of is that I was in an fairly large enclosed canvas tent with hairstylists and lots of hairspray being sprayed and I also had unknowingly chewed some gum with aspartame in it and there have been links to aspartame, (IE. Nutrasweet or Equal) and nerve problems for years now. Does anyone else experiencing numbness have sudden outbursts of numbness, or is the numbness gradual or always there? I've gotten so much conflicting information over the years from doctors such as " numbness and pain are not symptoms of CMT " , " CMT does not have sudden outbursts of symptoms; they are more gradual in nature " , " stay active and exercise " , " don't bother with exercise, it's a waste of your time " etc... Being on the forum and getting advice from others has been a great help to me and I appreciate all of you that take the time to share your experiences. ~
