, do you have a YMCA there or Rehab center that has a " therapy

pool " ? Water is kept at 96 degrees in the one I use here - so no

warm up needed, (stiffness is gone upon submmersion) no muscle

soreness, non-weight bearing (many of the classes have women with

osteo in them) Some people only come for 1/2 hour 1X a week, others

do the whole hour of the aqua-circuit 3X a week. Exercises include

movements for balance/proprioception too. Working into the current

with just regular walking steps can build more muscle mass, plus

there are so many other movements done in water that can do this.

Anne,

I think you emailed me last week or the week before and I don't think

I ever got back to you. I'm not quite sure what you wanted to ask, but

if you post again, I will pay special attention.

I put a list of the exercises I do in our Files, there are others I

need to add. Aquatics is ongoing for me. It is difficult to describe

in words what an Aquatics program is, and list exercises. Our pools

are Swim Ex models and we have a variety of 'toys' with which we use

to provide resistance, support, etc. The pools also have an adjustable

current between 3 and 7 mph. Regular exercisers just swim laps at 7

mph (they go no where, it is funny to watch) their pool is 82 degrees.

The pool we use for Aquatics workouts is about 92 - 94 degrees - very

warm, this is theraputic for muscles. We use all the 'props' for

resistance and strength/muscle building.

I started Aquatic therapy one year after back surgery, and just got hooked, I

love the water and pools, so I'm still there. (and my back is doing very well

too)
