Guest guest
I went on a Carnival cruise with my husband and 2 daughters in December, 2002. I am not confined to a wheelchair, but rode in it often because of the amount of walking that needed to be done. I, too, found the ship to be extremely inaccessible. Many times, I had to get out of the chair, and my husband had to lift it through the doorway. I'm lucky I can still stand and walk, or the cruise would have been an awful experience. You would think the cruise lines would want to be more accommodating. They are the ones who are losing business by discriminating against the growing disabled population and not making it feasible for us to travel with them. K. Guest guest
Just wanted to say congrats on the wedding! Dina Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry® cruise lines I know this came up already but I didn't pay attention because I thought I would never take a cruise. Long story short, I got married 2 weeks ago and we want to take a cruise as a honeymoon. We are broke now but might be able to pull it off in the fall. Which cruise lines are most accomodating? We would be leaving from Philly or Baltimore. I am not sure if I would be using my power chair or the manual. My thinking is it would be better to take the manual, just to avoid having anything happen to the power chair. The drawback is I can't sit in the manual much more than an hour at a time and it's harder for my wife to lift me out of the manual. Are the cabins big enough to get around them in a power chair? Any advise/info will be appreciated, thanks! Tom
Guest guest
We went on a Royal Carribean Cruise 2 summers ago. The handicapped accessible room had plenty of room to maneuver around comfortably, including a bathroom with roll in shower. We didn't encounter any accessibility issues on the ship. The only problem we found with a cruise is that the ship does not port at all locations making it impossible for us to get our daughter and her power chair off at some locations. Good luck. Have fun.
