Guest guest
Did I understand that type 3 is a variant of CMT1A? Does that mean that type 1A can change into type 3? I wonder if Adam has type 3. His CMT is so much more involved then the rest of ours. Any thoughts or ideas? jenny
Guest guest
, well, yes, it is thought that Type 3 (actually formerly named Dejerine Sottas) could be a variant of 1A, according to my recent post on a reply from . As for 1A becoming a variant of 3 - I have no idea. 3 is 'known' from everything I have read to be onset in infancy and severe. But I have also read that 1A can be the same. On the other hand, 1A can be mild. It is becomming more and more complex with what genes are doing/causing, and the family hereditary patterns, plus researchers in the labs keep finding new mutations, etc. No longer are things so cut and dried with just CMT 1 and 2 and X. Remember, that even within the SAME FAMILY, severity and extent of symptoms can vary - meaning someone could be mild, or even appear unaffected, where maybe someone else is pretty severe, needs assistive devices, etc. So you can see and read types, go to http://geneclinics.org click on " gene reviews " at the top. Put 'Charcot Marie Tooth' in the search box, then the gene types will come up and you can read all and assimilate and see which have DNA tests and which don't; also which only have tests in research, etc. Also do a search on Dejerine Sottas for some background. ~ Gretchen
