I used to use her goatsmilk in my soap, but have run out. She has since then been making her own goatsmilk soap. Nice big healthy bars which she sells for around $4.50. (and she gets it) If I go up to $3.50 I don't get it. I get 73 bars out of an 11 lb. batch. Cut them 3x2x3/4 " . small but I dress them up. My average bar is around 50 cents (dressing and all) in Cambridge ~~Madness takes its toll, please have the exact change~~

Guest guest
Alice Probably the least expensive soap is Melt and Pour Soap and not cold processed soap and therefore is not expensive to make. You can get Aloe Vera Juice in Walmart in the pharmacy section for about $8.00 a gallon which is what we use in soapmaking. Different soaps command different prices depending upon the process and the contents of the soap. Soap does NOT need to list ingredients if no claims are made other than it cleans. If you say that your soap will mositurize or beautify, etc, then it becomes a cosmetic and proper labeling is required. BUT soap does require the net weight and the manuf. name, address on the label. You will have to charge cost plus a percentage for labor. And again it depends on the cost of ingredients, and labor involved in production. As far a competition goes, make your soap something special that others are not making, and you will find your niche. hth Sherry Natural Care E-books, booklet, spreadsheets, free downloads www.herbalsoap-healingcreams.com
Guest guest
Thanx! I'm gonna try it! > I use Olive as the main part of my soap because it is mild and reasonable in > price. > Coconut and Palm Kernel for hardness and lather > Castor for lather > Coco butter for harness and moisturizing > Shea for it's wonderful feel and because it has so many unsponifiables > I am also very fond of Sunflower, Apricot Kernel and Avocado > Chris >

Guest guest
Hi I started out using heavy cream in my soap added at trace. Then people found out I had raw milk and now I don't have enough milk to sell to them and feed my calves and do soap. I am raising another heifer to milk but it will be a while. I had goats and was milking 10 to 15 goats a day. I am really not a goat person and I get 8 gallons a day from one cow. So the goats went and now I just have cows. I sell beef and pork and milk and eggs along with my soap. I find that 3.00 for a 4 oz bar is as high as I can get. I sell them for 2.50 if they buy 10 or more bars at a time. So now most of my customers do it that way. I am not fancy with the soap, no label or packaging. So far I have not had any complaints. I do get fancier for Christmas. I would love to make cheese but again I can't do this until I get more milk. I get 3.50 a gallon so customers come first. Chris > I don't have the time as I have a full time dairy > farm. Guest guest
What an interesting story. I remember adding milk at trace when I didn HP. I had to freeze the milk and heat the honey. It was weird. I do 100% goats milk soap now (Oatmeal, Milk and Honey) - Sounds like you have an interesting sideline going, plus a lot of work. Good luck Hi I started out using heavy cream in my soap added at trace. Then people found out I had raw milk and now I don't have enough milk to sell to them and feed my calves and do soap. Guest guest
I've always wanted a milk cow and chickens. My life has been spent with me in the wrong place. How much cream at trace? I'd think that works better than adding it to the lye water, as it'd keep more of the milky goodies in it, right? > Hi > I started out using heavy cream in my soap added at trace. milk and eggs > along with my soap. Guest guest
I have chickens and usually have more eggs than we can eat. Any ideas for incorporating eggs into soaps or lotions?? Hydrolyzed albumin maybe??? > > Hi > > I started out using heavy cream in my soap added at trace. milk > and eggs > > along with my soap. Guest guest
Dont know for sure, but I think the protein (egg white) would burn and be stinky...However, the egg yolks are fat and somewhere I have seen a sap value! Guest guest
I was adding about 4 or 5 ounces and yes this does leave the cream more available for your skin. This is what most of the milk people that I talk to are doing. There is much less margin of error this way. Chris > I've always wanted a milk cow and chickens.
