Site Supervisor (SS) : Monitoring and Evaluation for Chennai,

Salem, and Tirunelveli

Applications are invited for the position of a full-time, Site

Supervisor (SS) at Chennai, Madurai, and Tirunelveli (3 posts) for

the Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E) activities of a comprehensive

HIV/AIDS care and treatment project in Tamilnadu, which includes

provision of antiretroviral therapy. This three-year project will be

coordinated by Yale University, Center for Interdisciplinary

Research on AIDS (CIRA) through its Yale-India office in Chennai.

The implementation of the ARV project will be directed by the Tamil

Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS). The SS will report to the

M & E India Project Director based in Chennai.

Skills and experience

Candidates with Masters Degree in social work/sociology/ psychology

or allied disciplines in the Humanities will be preferred. A

bachelor's degree candidate with substantial experience in

managing

and implementing HIV research projects will also be considered. The

candidate should be proficient in Tamil and English, and must have

excellent computer skills (Word processing and spread sheets). Prior

experience in research data collection and supervision is preferred

and exposure to qualitative and quantitative statistical software

will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The job responsibilities of the SS would include collecting clinical

and psychosocial data related to HIV in the government hospitals and

in the community. This will involve reviewing medical records of

patients (adults and children) who are enrolled in our project, and

conducting interviews with these patients and their family members.

Each SS will be in charge of the Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E)

activities within their respective districts and report on these

activities on a regular basis to the Project Director. The SS should

liaison with the local hospital teams, NGOs and others involved in

the implementation of the ARV project, and will attend district-

level project meetings as required. The SS will also guide the Data

Manager at each district in compiling the data and entering it into

computerized programs for analyses. The SS will be required to

travel to the neighboring districts from where patients will be

enrolled for the study, and occasionally to the Yale-India office in

Chennai to provide project updates.

Overall the SS should be an individual with good organizational

skills who will co-ordinate the M & E activities in the site, conduct

the interviews with patients and children, and supervise the

activities of the Data Manager. The candidate should provide all

professional assistance at the district level to the Project

Director at Chennai.

Salary commensurate with experience.
