Guest guest
Hi fellow members of , My name is Carl Capps, I'm 65, and a new resident in northeast Ohio. I came here six months to get married for the second time after losing my first wife to cancer three years ago. I have adult children, a son and daughter and seven grandchildren, including 3 step grandchildren. Also, two step daughters. I'm a ham radio operator, a hobby that I love. After limping and falling for a number of years, my late wife strongly <grin> suggested that I see a doctor about my problem. So about six years ago, I was diagnosed with CMT. My doctor suspected my wife was feeding me arsenic. She replied to that comment that I was worth more alive than dead. The doctor said CMT wouldn't kill me but might disable me at some point in the future. My new wife brags that I don't complain alot. I have AFOs but usually don't wear them I do use a cane. A doctor at Duke in N. C. where I moved from diagnosed me with CIDP. After moving to Ohio six months ago, I went to one of the top neurologists in the country at University Hospitals of Cleveland, where after DNA tests and a spinal tap (ouch), I was diagnosed with CMT 2. I am working out three days a week now using a stationary bike for aerobics and strength training machines to try and strengthen my muscles. I use 1800 mg. of neurontin per day and still have some burning at night several times a week. My biggest problem is fatigue in the afternoon. Usually after a nap, I feel much stronger and much better. I am extremely happy to find this web site thanks to GG who responded to a post on the Neuropathy Association web site. I'm quite impressed with the website and plan to spend some time on it over the next few weeks and learn as much as I can about the disease that challenges all of us afflicted. I encourage everyone to hang in there and hope everyone has a great New Year! Carl
