Guest guest
I too, am the only one in my family to have CMT. I was diagnosed in the early 70's and throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's I was told that if I had children my son would have a 50% of having CMT, and a daughter would have a 100% chance. I'm sure much of this was guesswork, as doctors also told me that by age 20 I'd be in a wheelchair and I proved them wrong there. In 2002 I had blood work done by Athena Labs through the CMT Clinic at Wayne State University in Detroit, but they couldn't determine what type of CMT I have. No one in my family shows any symptoms, and I decided years ago after much deliberation not to have children. It's a decision that has worked for me, but it's still difficult from time to time. On a different note, someone new asked about good shoes for AFOs and I still find wrestling shoes to work the best for me with my current pair of AFOs that don't allow me to wear a shoe with ANY heel whatsoever. I have small feet and find that I can easily shop in the boys department and boys wrestling shoes provide great traction and look sort of cool too. :-) ~
