Guest guest
How many CMTER's have some kind of swallowing/voice problems? I have a few. My voice is raspy/harsh/hoarse when I am tired. I have what is know as scanning speech. Your talking and just aren't able to finish your sentence, like it's on the tip of your tounge but you can't say it. Slurred/ mispronouced words when I am tired.Sometimes even new words. And what seems like spasms in my thoart. When it happens it is like choking somewhat, the food or liquid just goes down really slowly and hurts. My sisters who both have CMT thinks these symptoms aren't related to CMT. Sometimes I agree because I have a few other symptoms that they don't have and I was a nurse and know symptoms of other things and some of the things are more like MS. But not all, some are very much CMT. What are the changes of having both? Not that I want either, just sharing a fear I have. Anyway, time will tell since I go to the neuro on the 25th. Guest guest
Jan, I am a 58 year old male and have had CMT most of my life. I also have difficulty swallowing food and liquids. If I talk for any length of time my voice becomes hoarse and raspy to the point I have to stop. My CMT doctor said it was probably CMT. Several ENT doctors think it is acid reflux but they have not been able to stop it. All of this has been going on for 15 - 20 years now and getting worse. I have learned that by tossing my head forward when swallowing makes eating much easier. I personally think it is a combination of CMT and reflux causing these problems. Next month I see my ENT doctor again and I think he will try another pill on me. Bob
