Guest guest
Jan, I have some of the same issues with my voice. To be specific, hoarse and raspy, slurred, difficulty swallowing small objects, choke on my own spit, messed up gag reflex and spasms. My CMT symptoms are not that severe at 54 yrs. I do have braces, they are a Godsend as I am still working. Others in my family have some of these same symptoms, as well as other proximal symptoms such as kypho-/scoliosis. Some of us are profoundly deaf, (I'm working on it but not there yet). Yes, I think there is a connection! Hugs Jim Nash in Ohio
Guest guest
Jan, I am a Speech Language pathologist and my thoughts are that your symptoms sound more like Myasthenia Gravis. That is also a neuromuscular disease. Have you been diagnosed with CMT via medical tests or just symptoms? Yoy might just ask about that disease when you see the Dr.
Guest guest
I also know that there is another condition that does get confused with CMT which involves swallowing. It too is a neuromuscular disease called SMA, spinal muscular atrophy. This is the condition they believe I have, although I do not have the swallowing symptom. Guest guest
Hi , Oh my gosh, I have the same speech problems and I am seeing a speech pathologist tomorrow but what I find interesting is my Grandmother on my Mother's side had Myasthenia Gravis when she died when my Mother was 6. They were unsure if it was the disease that killed her or smoke inhalation that she rec'd some weeks earlier when their house burned down. I have never had the blood work done yet. I can not afford it. I will let you know my findings tomorrow when I see speech pathologist. Laurie in Sarasota
