Guest guest
: (Please share this wtih your son) As a piano teacher myself, I never let anyone be discouraged from learning something new. Everyone is different. Look for someone to teach you that is willing to work with difficulties. I'm sure that you can learn to play even if you have to compensate for your hands/fingers. Being good at something has many different outlooks and opinions. Playing an instrument is very personal...you learn to express yourself through the music. Remember the same music can be expressed very differently. Please don't give up and not learn to play. Always do the best that you can do...no matter what someone elses opinion is. Music has been a very big part of my life. My CMT is getting more advanced and I am begining to see/feel changes in my hands. I can't play for long periods of time as I used too...but I treasure the talent God has given to me. Best Wishes! Jane Crock
Guest guest
, I taught myself to play folk guitar when I was 14 (after 7 years of piano) and kept it up until I was about 17 or so. During this time my spascity was at it's ultimate worst, so was fatigue, and my CMT in general. But I found a way to learn something I enjoyed. With the help of PP & M, a good ear, a pick and a few other guitar tools, it is all possible. There is a GREAT guitar shop in Santa - if you get over to the orthotist again, let me know and I will look up the shop - oh, just remembered it is called " McCabes " and I think it is on Pico. Tons of guitar stuff there - music, classes, others with the same interest, even have jams on the weekend in the back/small theater. I spent alot of time there. They've got guitars from all over hanging up - old ones, new ones, fancy, colored ones, etc. What do you know, they are still there - look over this website - http://www.mccabes.com/ definitely worth a trip there to explore the place...and might help Spencer " renew " his interest and forget about the bullies. Let me know if you go to McCabes, I'd love to see the place myself again and could meet you there. Of course we all have to eventually learn to handle those that choose to " bully " us. I kept my guitar learning secret until I was at camp, and by the summers I had so much practice I was good enough to teach others. " FKM " to the bullies and insist Spencer rise to the challenge.
