Guest guest
I've noticed in talking with others about CMT and in some reading about it, there seems to be some concentrations of it in certain areas- places in Ohio, I've heard of this in France. Anyone know anything about this and if studies are being done to determine causes? Jim
Guest guest
Jim, This has to do with migratory patterns when families arrived in the U.S. or Canada from Northern European countries. Then, as cities were built, people went where the jobs are, settled, stayed, for generations. Long ago, some families intermarried. And there is a large incidence of CMT in Louisana, French-Acadian kindred segregating autosomal dominant CMT. Now CMT is worldwide, Brazil, Italy, China, and Japan have some of the highest incidence rates. And most African CMT is recessive, where most CMT in the US is dominant. , M.D., at Tulane has studied the French-Acadian CMT quite a bit. As for studies to determine " cause " , well, research is drive by $, and most $ is going into specific genetics and some into treatment.
