Elaine and others-,

I have never heard anyone mention a coorelation between clenched hands when

sleeping

as being a symptom of CMT, but I have found that I wake up often with my fists

clenched

or my wrists bent at awkward angles and it causes painful hands for a while

after waking

up. I have to keep reminding and telling myself not to do that, and that seems

to help.

Is this a CMT thing????

my doctor suggested wrist splints when I sleep I got some that extend down

the hands far enough it keeps them open. I sleep better and I no longer wake up

in the mornings in pain trying to staighten my hands and wrist out. Cathleen

I thought my hubby had selective hearing!! Yes you got a laugh out of me. If

your hands stay clenched look in the palm and see if there is a knot there.

once I found a knot I asked my orthopedic about it. He said I had developed a

dupitrennes contracture and a simple surgery relased my fingers and now they

are strait, sleeping in splints helps keep them strait. Cathleen in Arkansas

Hi , Elaine:

I was alarmed by the awkward position of my hands few years ago – I remember

speaking to my Dr about the situation – I was complaining of numbness and luck

of sensation - the response was “blood pressure drops to quickly and this is a

form of relaxation” this explanation made me hit the roof – after years of med

school that what my Dr. learned :))

And now I red your post, hmm maybe hurting arms and hands are a result the

position I sleep in ,

always someting new!! hope you have a nice a sunny day!

I noticed clenched hands first when I saw photos of myself with others. It

seems like my hands are always tightened up and never relaxed. Now that

also makes sense with the other symtoms I've come to known. I also hate my

voice and have had a tendency to mumble when I speak. For years I just

thought it was because my ex-husband never listened to me, so I started

talking to myself..seriously and also jokingly...Did I get a chuckle out of

anyone??

I had this happen in one hand and my Dr. told me I had a bit of

arthritis. For me, a stretch knit glove solved the problem. After a

few weeks the problem went away.
