PWN+ New Secretariat office in Chennai

Dear friends,

Greetings from PWN+. Positive Women Network (PWN+) is opening its new

secretariat office in Chennai from August 2004. The Avahan programme initiated

by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in India, through Family Health

International (FHI) and Indian Network for people living with HIV/AIDS are

supporting the secretariat office. Positive women network was initially a

southern India organization. The Avahan programme is for the work of PWN+ in

other parts of India.

The purpose of the grant is to strengthen the internal mobilization and

organizing capability of the Indian Network for people living with HIV/AIDS to

effectively advocate for reduction of stigma and discrimintaion, resulting in

supportive environment for improving the quality of life of PLWHA. This would

also build capacities of state level newtorks and district level networks in six

high prevalence states.

For positive women network, The grant supports three staff - coordinator,

training officer, accountant for work towards women's issues in these six

states.

The office is being formally inaugurated on the 18th of August 2004 at 10.00 AM.
