Guest guest
HI- I am confused and frustrated. I have had EMG's throughout my life because of my CMT. I had one in 1998 which was very painful and very thorough at the CLeveland Clinic. I have always been told that each EMG will get worse as time goes on due to CMT being progressive. And it is my understanding that this has always shown true for me. BUT- I had an EMG in my local area ( not CLEV) and it was quick and not thorough- and the Doctor-who is not a neurologist- says it is significantly worse- BUT due to my diabetes not CMT. He says that CMT will stay the same on an EMG forever until you are 70 or 80 yrs old. Not decline like mine did in comparison to the 1998 EMG. HUH??? Help! I want confirmation that once again these docs " think " they know something about CMT -- when they do not! Thank you! Becca
Guest guest
I am a confusion for my neurologist because I am now at the point that I don't feel anything when I have a EMG. My first was in 1995 and my last was last year. He says I should feel something but I don't and I am getting worse. Now I have developed diabetes and the doctor says that is really going to mess up my EMGs. I have made the decision to never have another one, It is not like they do anything about them getting worse. I will just keeping on going like I am and learn from this group and my own research about vitamins. I don't think the doctors really know all they should and heaven help those of us who develope diabetes, it really throws them off. Keep reading here there is a lot we can figure out for ourselves. Guest guest
Becca, Why are your doctors making you have repeated EMGs " because of CMT " ? It's typically a diagnostic tool and once they know that you have CMT I haven't known it to be routine procedure. I've had 2. One at age 5, and one at 32 and will never have another one. I know I have CMT, doctors know I have CMT, and the EMG is far too painful and stressful to be submitted to on a regular basis. Just curious what the doctor's logic behind the repeat tests is.... ~
Guest guest
After the initial diagnostic EMG, what is the purpose of additional EMG tests? Dennis
