SAATHII PARTNERS WITH TANSACS AND CIFF ON ARV TREATMENT PROJECT

Chennai, March 1, 2005

Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), UK, has awarded

funding to Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) to expand

antiretroviral treatment to 1000 parents/family members and care and

support (including nutrition support) to 4000 parents/family members

of HIV infected and affected children to prevent children being

orphaned in the State of Tamil Nadu.

SAATHII (Solidarity and Action Against the HIV Infection in India)

has been awarded funding to provide technical, operational and

logistical assistance to the TANSACS and implementing partners in

setting up the project and Yale University has been awarded funding

for monitoring and evaluation.

The Tamilnadu ARV program will implement three family-centered

continuum of care and ARV treatment programs through existing

government services in equal partnership with NGOs, CBOs and

Positive Networks to provide a comprehensive range of HIV/AIDS care,

support and treatment services including voluntary testing and

counselling, routine medical care, routine HIV care, diagnosis and

treatment of opportunistic infections, provision of antiretroviral

treatment by trained clinicians, counselling for treatment

preparedness and literacy, provision of psycho-social services,

nutrition services and adherence counselling, out reach, home care

linkages to income generating activities, legal services and

housing.

This program will be implemented at Government Kilpak Medical

College Hospital, Chennai, Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical

college Hospital and Salem Government Medical college Hospital,

Tirunelvelli. These three programs will cater to families from their

respective surrounding districts.
