I am behind in reading your posts because of a trip to Egypt, Israel, and

Jordan. My husband, 75, has late onset CMT and took his scooter with him. He

can get off and on when it needs to be lifted up or down a curb. He loves

the one we picked. It is lightweight, the heaviest piece is 25 ponds, and

comes apart without much difficulty. The wheels are small and the basket not

as

good as I would like. It goes almost 4 mph or slower (adjustable) and 10

miles on level surfaces; but uphill is a lot harder on the battery. It is

actually manufactured in Israel and is FAA approved, so he drives it right up

to

the entrance to the airplane; we either get it back at the gate or with the

luggage. It is a Featherlite from No Boundaries, 1-800-926-8367 in Orange

County. _http://www.noboundaries.tv/easytravel.htm_

It cost $2300 or 2400, and 15 months later we are still fighting Medicare

about paying for it. MDA will pay $2000 if necessary.

Speaking of braces: he regrets not getting them earlier when the doctor

first suggested because his feet and ankles got a lot more deformed, so his

braces are never really comfortable. He recently got new metal ones with his

inserts in the shoes.

Speaking of MDA clinics we like the Santa Barbara one much better than UCLA

and USC.
