Guest guest
Well, I went under the knife today. I had really started stressing about the anticipated pain. I tried to relax about it, but by this morning I was getting pretty antsy. I'm glad I'm past the surgery point, because now it's done, and I know I just have to push through now. Doc didn't go into any detail about how everything went, other than it went well. Anesthesiologist was great, they have a good group at that center, he gave me extra meds for my stomach and nausea and i'd gotten a scopolamine patch from my doc. I had no problems whatsoever coming out of the anesthesia. The pain was pretty intense, though, even with a nerve block. They took the edge off with morphine, and as soon as I'd eaten and drunk something they started me on the Vicodin and the pain started lessening a little bit at a time. I got home early afternoon, and got a few hours' sleep. I'm taking the Vicodin on schedule and the pain is down to a dull ache now. It's harder than I expected to be on crutches and not even touch down with the foot. I'd been on crutches a lot in the past, but always had touchdown at least. I had also nixed the idea of a toilet seat riser, and realize now that was a mistake. I can get down just fine, getting up a a lot harder. So we're going to get one tomorrow. In general, I'm doing pretty well, I think. I start the CPM tomorrow, it got delivered yesterday. (I also found an old model that is supposed to work well on ebay for $100 plush shipping, so when they take this one away at 3 weeks I'll still have one to use... thanks for the advice, everyone who suggested finding one on ebay.) I am goin to be logging progress in my blog at www.thefisher.net if anyone wants to follow along. I see my doc next week and will hopefully get copies of the pics.
