mitral valve prolapse/sleep apnea

Hello Candy,

Welcome! I don't write many posts on this site but I read them daily. I found

it interesting that you mentioned you had mitral valve prolapse. I also have

this condition along with my brother (we both have CMT). I was wondering how

many others with CMT also have mitral valve prolapse (also referred to as a

heart murmur)? My grandmother and mother (who also had CMT) both had hearing

problems, again is this just a coincidence? I know we can not blame everything

on our CMT and yet so much of what I read makes me wonder?

I have had problems with breathing when I sleep for a few years now and have

undergone several sleep studies. Apparently I have sleep apnea (I stop

breathing approximately 28 times per hour during the night). I have been told

that I need a CPAP machine but I am having trouble adapting to the machine.

Does anyone else with sleep apnea have any experiences to share from using a

CPAP?
