Guest guest
Good afternoon- first, thank you Gretchen for trouble-shooting my problems in getting on to this site. I did finally make it! I have to admit it was likely operator error, but being a computer klutz I don't know where I went wrong. My name is Jim s. I live in a small, but growing, city east of Indianapolis. I am married with two children, neither, presently, showing any CMT signs. Until recently, no one in my family showed any signs. Recently, a nephew showed me his hammer toes. There is much discussion in the family as to what to do next. I have had symptoms since I was very young. I had trouble walking the stairs as early as first grade. By the time I was ten, I had the high arches and prominent tarsus (?) bone. At age 12 I was diagnosed with Friedrich's ataxia. I bicycled and played playground basketball through my teens and early twenties. In my early twenties, I chose to be evaluated again. I was given a diagnosis using the terms peroneal muscular atrophy, spastic paraplegia, peripheral neuropathy and something else. I never heard the term CMT. Recently, while there has been no specific genetic confirmation, my neurologist is comfortable in saying I have CMT. I have been using AFOs since 1999. My general condition has deteriorated over the last ten years, with a steep decline in the last two. I now use a cane along with my AFOs. I've chosen to get my messages on the website, at present. I belong to another list related to my avocation, birding, that keeps my personal email stuffed. I already like what I see, though, in the many articles and may choose to convert to personal email soon. I hope this isn't too much. I don't intend to give in, but will learn to live with this disorder as it continues to change. Any and all information to help with that is most appreciated. Again, thank you, Gretchen. I also want to thank the person on this site who also has posted to a another CMT site and encouraged my seeking out this site. I hope you know who you are. I'm JEM on that site. Take care and thank you- Jim
