alcohol and caffiene

First, my experience with alcohol - considering a neurologist told me

never to drink alcohol when I was 15, I nodded my head in agreement

and made a mental note to follow his advice. Think that happened? Of

course not - and alcohol took me to some depths of despair I never

want to visit again. Physically, alcohol, being a depressant, WIRED

me. Yes, it had a " reverse effect " . The more I drank trying to relax,

the more wired I got. Consequently, I ate very little and slept very

little. I tried to drink to pass out - it never happened. If you want

We had at some point on this list talked about the principle of

the " reverse effect " of medications - I had this happen with Ritalin

too. Alcohol IS on the list of toxic substances to avoid if you have

CMT.

On to caffiene - I learned just how fast I could write papers in

college and from then on when I had to focus for long durations or

write, it was caffiene. I never considered what it did to my tremors -

I was too busy MOVING from project to project, accomplish, produce,

etc. So my life for awhile was caffiene by day, alcohol by night.

In 1979 I received the gift of sobriety. However, more recently, in

2002, I gave up caffiene (following back surgery and since I was

detoxing from some heavy meds, just threw in a caffiene detox too) So

far so good, still off caffiene.

Now my life is so peaceful and serene it is amazing. Health wise, I

am in good shape, as my most recent Nov. 04 physical showed. And I

don't have to do things fast and furious or be the first...it is nice

to truly know what the word " RELAX " means. I prefer this over any

substance. And my nerves are happier without the UP/Down/Up

crazyness.
