Guest guest
Friday we took Adam back to Swiss Balance to pick up his new AFOs. His gait is so much better now. Rudy the guy that made the new AFOs explained so many things to me. Anyway his gait will look even better once we get him a pair of New Balance running shoes. They have a rounded bottom that is good for flat bottom AFOs. Rudy thinks that the next set of AFOs will be less ridged once Adam builds some muscle up. Today (Saturday) Adam's feet are really sore. He is just not used to using his own muscle to walk. I am going to get him some gel insoles and see if I can fit them into his AFOs just to make them feel more comfy. His old nasty braces didn't let his feet move at all. Then we took Adam to our orthopedist. He agreed that old AFOS were crap. I tossed them in the trash at his office. He checked out Adam's new braces made a few suggestions about padding a little more here and there. Explained to me that CMT kids sometimes have a staple put on the inside ankle bone to allow the growth plate on the outside of the ankle to grow the length it should be. But Adam's feet are doing so well that he won't bother with any surgeries at this point. His growth plate is way off tho. Now Adam's feet don't look great to me but to an orthopedist they do. He took x rays and everything. Spencer had his cast taken off while we were at the doctors office. His bones have fused and his surgery looks great! Spencer is free of another doctor's visit for 4 months. The nurse said she will miss him, lol. Then we went back to Swiss Balance to get more padding for Adam and I mentioned Vitamin C to Rudy. He has a name of a doctor that wears AFOs that is very much into healing the body with vitamins and herbs. He mentioned mushrooms and said we should talk to this doctor. I am going to call and get the doctors information. It was so nice to actually talk about Vitamin c and not get the " Oh ya sure attitude " . All day I was just so grateful to and the networking that we have done. I learn so much from this group that I can't even say in words how grateful I am to be apart of it. Thank you Gretchen for putting your time, energy and brains into this list. I know that running a successful list is not easy, I know it takes a lot of time. Thank you so very very much!
