Guest guest
Hello everyone, I'm Elaine (age 38) and I was diagnosed with CMT Type 2 just a few days ago. First I want to say thank you for inviting me to the group. It's very comforting to know that there are others like me who understand what this is like. I have been living with foot pain all my life. I have the " classic " very high arches and hammertoes. I have had periods of time when I had no pain and was able to do a lot. This is not one of those times. I have had plantar fascia surgery and neuroma removal surgery and it looks like I'm going to have plantar fascia surgery on the other foot this spring. My symptoms of CMT came on very fast. Like I said before I have always had foot pain but I was able to handle it. I was very active throughout my life, playing on volleyball teams, being in band and rifle squads in school. I've participated in many parades and charity walks. But the past few weeks, months actually my feet and legs just don't want to cooperate with me. I've fallen down, had a couple good scares when I couldn't stop my truck, and my feet feel like a dentist has injected them with novacaine. This feeling never goes away. I've also notice that my handwriting is getting " sloppy " and my typing skills have dropped. I'm taking Neurontin and that seems to be a little messy with my memory. Sometimes I forget where the letters are on my keyboard. This freaks me out because I've always typed 95 wpm and now I'm down to about 50-60. It all just feels wierd. I finally found an excellent podiatrist and neurologist who are doing all they can to help. I learned of your group from the CMT website and I was very excited to join. I have a very supportive boyfriend but as we know if you don't have CMT you have no idea what it's like. I wanted to join this group to learn all I can about this disorder and to gain strength from others who " have been there " . I refuse to let this get me down. I love to drive and I just bought a new truck so there is nothing that's going to stop me. I love to garden and can't wait for spring to come so I can work on my flower beds. I hope to gain some friends here and I hope to be a friend to many of you. Thanks again! Elaine Love all, trust a few, do harm to none.
