Guest guest
Dear ers, In the CMTA Annual Appeal letter they mention a future plan to conduct the first Vitamin C study in the U.S. Of course, they are needing to raise the necessary funds first. I'd like to suggest all members think about making a donation to the CMTA - TO BE ESPECIALLY EARMARKED for the Vitamin C USA Trials. Guest guest
I don't know why they need so much money to do this study. I think we could do a better study for a fraction of the price.
Guest guest
, Yes, we sure could do a better study at half the price, but ours would not be considered " scientific " . Researchers need to be paid for their work - sometimes I question just how much, but $ talks. We at surely have been some pioneers in using the Vitamin C to begin with We already know one of Vitamin C's " side effects " is more energy. Plus a real scientific study, would need to be double-blind; no one would know who gets the Vitamin C and who doesn't until the study is closed and results are tabulated. Plus there is other scientific protocol to follow. You remember, too, even the initial screenings of study participants are strict - remember what those in the NT-3 had to go through? Then there needs to be a " control group " - those that are in the study but do not receive Vitamin C. Then like the little mice in the French study, there will be measurement of activity, maybe exercise and follow-up too. BUT THE REAL ISSUE IS WILL VITAMIN C COMPLETELY STOP CMT 1A FROM OCCURRING, as was discovered in 30 generations of mice. So, really, there's alot to a research study/trial afterall. Guest guest
Gretchen, Thanks for the update on the Vit C trials. The most discouraging thing to me is that so few medical practitioners are informed about CMT in order to properly care for us with the disease.Yes, I pray daily that CMT can be stopped in its tracks as I am now seeing initial problems with some of my five children. Why aren't more MDs interested in our problem - that seems to be the major stumbling block for us here in the Northeast. P.
