Guest guest Posted May 19, 2004 Report Share Posted May 19, 2004 THE SOUTH and SOUTH EAST ASIA REGIONAL RESOURCE CENTRE ON SEXUALITY Hosted by TARSHI TARSHI (Talking About Reproductive and Sexual Health Issues), an NGO based in New Delhi, India, works towards expanding sexual and reproductive choices in people's lives, believing that all people have the right to sexual well-being and a self-affirming, enjoyable sexuality. As part of a new Ford Foundation funded initiative, TARSHI has set up a Resource Centre on Sexuality for the South and South East Asia Region which aims to increase knowledge and scholarship on issues of sexuality, sexual health and sexual well being in this region. The Centre will provide and share essential information and resources across countries in this region, will develop scholarship and capacity through experiential learning and will initiate the spread and consolidation of knowledge. The Centre through its efforts hopes to enhance conceptual understanding of the fields of sexuality, gender and human rights. The Resource Centre will specially focus on sexuality related work in China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Specific programmatic goals are to: • Develop and build on the scholarship and capacity in the field of sexuality in the South and South East Asia region with a view to transform theory into practice. • Enhance the conceptual understanding of the fields of sexuality, gender and human rights and of their inter-linkages with socio-cultural issues in the South and South East Asia region. • Increase and consolidate the knowledge base and resources available on issues of sexuality and sexual well-being in the South and South East Asia region. The Resource Centre will conduct a regional institute, a visiting scholars program, bring out thematic publications, set up and maintain a library, organise public lectures and events on sexuality issues and conduct other relevant activities to meet its goals. TARSHI has the following vacancies in its South and South East Asia Regional Resource Centre in New Delhi. PROGRAM DIRECTOR/MANAGER The program Director/Manager will be responsible for developing the Resource Centre’s activities at a regional level, under the guidance of the Executive Director. S/he will also work closely with other staff and assist in developing the activities of the Centre to meet regional needs. In addition to other responsibilities, s/he will be primarily responsible for the visiting scholars program. The job title will depend on the individual’s skills, competence and professional experience. A suitable candidate should possess: substantive knowledge of issues of sexuality and rights; 7-8 years experience working on issues of sexuality, sensitivity to cross-cultural issues; an appropriate higher degree in the social sciences; the ability to network with individuals and organizations at a national and international level and excellent interpersonal skills. Also required are excellent communication and presentation skills, keen intellectual, analytical and planning abilities, strong decision-making abilities and word processing skills on the computer. THE LIBRARY AND PUBLICATIONS COORDINATOR The Library and Publications Coordinator will be primarily responsible for setting up, maintaining and updating the Resource Centre Library. S/he will work in coordination with the Research and Advocacy Coordinator to ensure timely production of Resource Centre publications. The Library and Publications Coordinator will advise on electronic dissemination of information, teach and instruct library patrons on the use of electronic information resources; administer and manage the Library database and web site; handle administrative and logistical arrangements for the Centre’s activities; manage and maintain resource materials and equipment. A suitable candidate should possess: An appropriate degree in the social sciences and a professional degree in Library Sciences; minimum experience of 3-4 years working in a development agency library/resource centre; possess high competence in the use of computers, networks and software programs; excellent communication skills; good coordination and networking abilities.
