Why not knee replacement for chondromalacia

When I saw the ortho the last time, he told me that a knee

replacement would take away the pain. When I asked him why he

doesn't do it then, he said " I don't do knee replacements for

chondromalacia. " I asked why and his answer was, " its against

protocol and I stay with protocol. " Does anyone here know why

they won't do knee replacements?
