Guest guest
Hi - it depends on how bad you are. I am 50, have had chondromalacia all my life and I live in a split level. Most days it is ok, only on occasion is it a problem. Heavy items (kitty litter, etc) are left in the garage for a family member to bring up the stairs - my major issue is carrying things up the stairs. It depends a lot on how hard stairs are for you - and how long you are planning to stay in the house. I will say that when we move in a few years, we are moving into a one story house. Guest guest
I had problem going up/down stairs. I have I used Doug Kelsey's program several years ago  that allowed me to gradually strengthen my quad muscles and my knee joint. Now I am able to climb stairs and I have resumed all my old sports activities. I recommend you look into Doug's book " Runner's Knee Bible " or 's book. As for me, I had to avoid stairs for a long time. I have only one bad knee, so I was able to get up or down stairs without aggrevating my knee too much. It took several months on my rehab program before I could successfully go up or down stairs. I'm in escrow, 45 yrs old, in good health and recently diagnosed w/Chondromalacia. I'm worried about moving into a 2 story home. It has about 8 stairs leading up, not too steep and first floor of home is all level-no stairs. I am just starting to do all the exercises I've seen on-line to strengthen my quad muscles. Am I making a huge mistake moving into a 2 story home? I 'd love any and all input while I can still back out of this deal. Thanks!!
Guest guest
Will definetly check out the Runner's Knee Bible ! Thanks @ juleswal12 : Better watch out if you're moving into a two story home. It might get problematic esp. if the stairs are steep. And I would suggest your do a lot of hip, adductors, abductors, rotational muscles of the hip, gluteus strengthening exercises too (They helped me most of all! Check out http://www.ccptr.org/articles/rebalancing-hip-muscles/ and http://academic.uofs.edu/faculty/kosmahle1/courses/pt350/goniomet/hiper.jpg (both internal and external rotation with weightsor bands!) Hope this helps! On Mon, Mar 12, 2012 at 10:46 PM, Lawrence Terbell <lterbell@...>wrote: > ** > > > I had problem going up/down stairs.
