Guest guest
I just had a patellofemoral knee replacement on my left knee on 1/10/12 at Mayo. I think I'm doing pretty well--I can already bend my knee to 90 degrees , though it's far from a fluid movement. I can do several things except a straight leg raise, quads havent woken up yet! For those of you go have had this surgery, I have a few questions: I'm struggling with how much I should be off it and how much I should walk around with crutches or walker? The dc plan says 'walk 3-4x daily " yet no specification on item or distance. When you were recovering,, did you keep your leg out extended (couch, ottoman, bed) or did you sit bent legged? I'm doing both plus lots of tome on the CPM Machine. I did ask my surgeon why I would need the same length of time to recover from a partial compared to a total? She said with the partial we maintain soft tissue, whereas with a total you are missing a lot of tissue. She said swelling will be my wort enemy because that will cause pain and loss of ROM. She said standing and walking (even with an aid) causes the swelling. .which leads me back to how much should I be up? I'd love to talk more with the few of you I've heard from before who underwent this. I'm at chezst@... Sue,
