It aims at enabling partners to clearly visualize, articulate and address their needs to manage the response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. SHRC identifies gaps and develops appropriate resources and facilitates their effective utilization. Its mandate is to contribute to the success of partners by developing quality technical resources and knowledge and making them available to partners.- ------------ MANAGEMENT CENTRE FOR HUMAN VALUES INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT - CALCUTTA MCHV enshrines more than two decades of aspiration and effort to hold up to the members of human organizations and institutions through contemporary adaptations from the perennial corpus of Indian and Psycho-Philosophical wisdom. At a time when large corporations worldwide are being exposed for gross unethical practices, the centre places primary emphasis on human values, the lack of which has been largely responsible for many of the problems in modern organisations. On such strong foundation of human values, the centre builds its initiatives around such areas like applied ethics in Management, Corporate reputation, Responsible corporate Governance and Synthesis of the best of East and West. The centre takes a holistic view of the organization and offers an integral model for all round human development transcending the limited notion of the techno-economic man. Created in1992, MCHV IIM Calcutta has delved into the area of training for NGO's specifically in the fields of management principles of practice. Its doctrine is to foster a value based organizational culture which enhances holistic managerial effectiveness for an ethically sound, socially responsible and sustainable scenario. --------------- THE CALCUTTA SAMARITANS, THE REGIONAL RESOURCE & TRAINING CENTRE - EAST ZONE- II The Calcutta Samaritans started their work in 1971. Due to Indo- Bangladesh war & political turmoil in the states, more & more youth were turning to various drugs & came to them in crisis, they recognised Drug Dependence as a serious problem and offered scientific treatment instead of blaming the dependents. With the passing years activities of the organization has expanded manifold and now include Detoxification and Rehabilitation for the Drug and Alcohol users, Day Care, Needle Syringe Exchange program for the Injecting Drug users, Night shelters, prevention of HIV/AIDS/STDs among the Sex Workers, MSMs, Migrant Labourers & Drug users and Rehabilitation through Vocational Trainings. Towards the late 1990s and early 2000s the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE) realized that existing NGOs in the fields of Drug Demand Reduction needed to improve their quality of service delivery and expand their coverage by including new NGOs. To increase the effectiveness and scope of its outreach, the Ministry, in collaboration with the United Nation Drug Control Program, Regional Office of South Asia (UNDCP ROSA) has identified Regional Resource and Training Centres (RRTCs), based in NGOs, for different regions of the country. The Calcutta Samaritans was one of the selected few and was allotted with the responsibility of Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim & Darjeeling part of West Bengal. RRTCs are responsible for carrying out need based training programmes for the professional development of service providers, technical backstopping, assisting in programme implementation, monitoring the trends of drug abuse in the respective regions and accordingly provide feed back to the NCDAP and the Ministry for formulation of national response. Recognising the strengths and the effective training efforts undertaken by the RRTCs, they were entrusted with the task of Capacity Building for the Targeted Interventions by NACO in the States where they have been strengthening the NGOs. ------------------------- MANAGEMENT CENTRE FOR HUMAN VALUES, IIM (CALCUTTA) Management Development for Capacity Building In Sexual Health January 17-27, 2005.
