Guest guest
Birdmites die in over 70 degrees C, so if they can heat over that it will work.KRCecilia From: lorenuciadoekes <lorenuciadoekes@...> bird mites Sent: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 12:52 AM Subject: Heat treating home Has anyone tried heat treating their home? Guest guest
It may, but it's expensive and no guarantee for the thousands you'd pay. And property ruined by the high heat. I moved a few times, took Ivermectin and Bactrim DS. Revolution for kitty and now am pretty much done with them. Home prices have nosedived anyway. And no home is worth your health. Hopefully, you can afford to rent a new home, if you can't buy. And I would rent at least once before buying again and having the same problems transported with you. > > Has anyone tried heat treating their home? Guest guest
I have had success with heat. You will basically run them around the house but will get your bed clean and you room ready for a good nights sleep. Tape all corners open spots. Get the propane powered 175,000 btu. Shop heater. It is a small tube heater open the door to your bedroom and make any type of stiff material the same size as your door opening. Cut out a 10 inch circle at the bottom and put just the business end of the heater through the hole. Rest of the heater will stay outside of room. Get a small thermometer from the auto parts store and put it trough a window on the other side of room so you can see it from outside. Throw away your plastic blinds they are going to melt anyway. Keep all electronics inside room- that is where they go during the day! Then hit it. The temp at 170 is great for about 4 hours. You will kill them and run them out of your bed. Then get ready for a good nights sleep. Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile
Guest guest
Your the first report I have seen that heat works. Glad to hear you beat the mite. Is this all you had bird mites? Identification? Thanks for sharing. > > I have had success with heat. You will basically run them around the house but will get your bed clean and you room ready for a good nights sleep. Guest guest
Go to northern tool and get the tube style 175,ooo btu propane heater cost is 200. You have to leave the body of the heater outside your room due to the temp sitch will keep shuting it off. I made a cut out for my window and hung it outside with just the end sticking in. The bugs will either die or run through holes depending on your house. Your car can be completely bug free using this also. Just get a high table and stick heater end in one window. Themometer in window other side. Move heater up or back or open another window to keep temp at 170. No hotter or it wil melt dash window plastic. I know! Do this twice in increments and you will no longer get stuck in the ass at night. Nothing else works. I have tried it all. The heat will eliminate all bugs Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile
Guest guest
The yard did not become infested as the insects run out? I am bug free just curious. My old farm house they would just escape either to the attic crawl space or yard. > > Go to northern tool and get the tube style 175,ooo btu propane heater cost is 200. Guest guest
Yes. The yard remains infested. Those things are very territorial. taping corners and killing as many as possible without them escaping is the way to go. The adults reduce in number greatly the crawlers are the first things to show back up Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile

Guest guest
Yes mites and springtails. Old house that I was trying to live in till I got the property cleared they won the war but I did figure out how to get them out of my van and car. It was in the plans to fix the old house until these things showed up. Now it is going to be a parking lot Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile
Guest guest
Sadly my old apartment has too many crawl spaces and holes and I did nothing but chase them around. I will say that even in my place I could get two or three days good sleep before I heated it up again. All clothes washed immediately and bagged Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile
Guest guest
Dust cracks crevices, drill small holes in wall and puff full of dust, before heating. Also if you could treat the yard like the video below, then nuke them:) http://www.bugspray.com/article/springtail.html > > Sadly my old apartment has too many crawl spaces and holes and I did nothing but chase them around. Guest guest
Yep yep. Tried all the dusts and powders. Tried roach power (burns) and lime powder everywhere. Tried diesel spayed all over the yard. Bought a torch attachment for propane bottle and was going to cut down the trees and burn the grass off but decided to get an apartment! Guest guest
I am confused are you free of infestation now? Sounds like you had a springtail nest. Finding their nest was essential to eradicate them for me. They had a nest in a old stump beside the house, and every crack crevice on my back deck. I dusted and watched them scatter. > > Yep yep. Guest guest
No these are mites. Cannot see these things. Never said I was free from them off my old house and property. Anyway. The heat works if you want them gone out of your car and can get them clear from your bed even with a leaky house for some days before they start hatching and crawling on you again. If you are spraying insecticides you need to know they are inside your electronics. Two way tape. Mouse tac strips gets them there Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile

Guest guest
Assuming your home can be an uninhabited building, i.e not a condo or apartment, I'd go with an ozone generator. Not sure exactly how they work, but you can Google it. I do know that humans can't breathe in it during treatment, animals, etc. It's supposed to kill and living organism in the building and not harm your possessions. Hope this helps > > > > Has anyone tried heat treating their home? I found a company that has successfully treated homes for bed bugs with heat treatment. Guest guest
I heard a different version Jan ! You need very strong ozone generators for killing bird mites, probably the industrial ones, that are very expensive and they do damage your belongings plus you need to be running them for at least 3 days, one in every room of the house. This is what I've been told by a company who is renting them out here in Germany, wanting a deposit of approx. 500 Euros for each generator.
