Guest guest
The " crazy " label stems directly from an article written by a veterinary entomologist named Hinkle. She wrote an article entitled on Delusiry Parasitosis whose " facts " are solely justified by themselves. The article itself was based on late 19th century writings by someone equally determined that he was correct. To add credibility to her otherwise obviously weak premise, she did two very clever things: 1. She constructed a table of symptoms that she said were indicators that those who claimed them did not have a parasitic, but a psychological problem. 2. She illustrated it with a Roy Lichtenstein-like cartoon intended to represent a neurotic looking woman with 50's style hair and makeup. These two factors made her article attractive enough to the publishers of the key journals, databases, and encyclopedias for the three fields we have naturally looked to for help time and again: * Medical doctors, including dermatologists. * Entomologists. * Pest control operators. Drs. concentrate on what they know and can do something about. The gov't wastes tons of money, i.e. the $10k dollar hammer from about 30 years ago. They have nothing to gain by helping us. There is no profit in this disease. > >Jan > > > > I did the attached cartoon in response to an article about the CDC study. Guest guest
You're right - DP has been around for a long time and is a recognized and " legitimate " disorder. Maybe some people here have it, but I bet not the vast majority of us. > > > > I did the attached cartoon in response to an article about the CDC study. Guest guest
You're right - DP has been around for decades as a 'legitimate' psychological condition. What we have has not. And there is no money in it for MD's or the gov't. > > > > I did the attached cartoon in response to an article about the CDC study.
