What percentage are you using it at? I if you try to dissolve too much it

won't stay in suspension. Same thing happens when dissolving menthol

crystals - too much and they re-crystallize right out of solution.

Subject: Allantoin How do you dissolve it?

Been having a fun time with Allantoin trying to use it it a hand cream.

It seems to give everything a gritty texture even after dissolving it

in water for a couple of hours. I tried using hot water and it 100%

dissolves but hard crystals form on cooling. Has anyone had any luck?

Hi ,

I use Allantoin in all my lotions and creams.  After I heat the water phase I

add the Allantoin and use my stick blender to incorporate it completely.  I've

never had a problem with the final product being gritty at all.

Hope that helps.

Funny that this should come up... we were just discussing this on

another group and I didn't agree with what they said so I started

looking around. The only mention of Allantoin on Croda's site is in the

formulary so I don't think they sell it. If you look on this page

http://lotioncrafter.com/reference/tech_data_allantoin.pdf you'll see

that they advise adding allantoin to the emulsion rather than the water.

That is what I've been doing when I make my lotion and so far I haven't

had any problems with crystalization. I check the temp. of the emulsion

by feeling the side of the bowl and when it is just slightly warm, add

the allantoin and blend it in. I always add my fragrance after

everything else is incorporated in (don't know if that matters or not).
