Guest guest
To all members Essential Oils are basically volatile metabolites of plants, produced by steam distillation Every essential oil has an accepted profile- and judged in the market as per some of the following parameters 1.. active ingredient % 2.. " Note " or the fragrance 3.. colour/color 4.. Chemical tests- GC, OR, RI, Sp. gravity etc. 5.. If it is organically grown and CERTIFIED or not Now there are hundreds of essential oils in the market, each having its very specific application in a variety of industries, because each oil has a set of very specifc aromatic compounds I would be able to answer your questions more accurately, including the chemistry of active ingredient [e.g. citral, geraniol, citronellol if some information is provided on " which particular oils " you seek information on, and for " what particular application " . You could include the " desired note type " , which would further help me give you alternatives for a particular oil also To give you a few examples 1.. Lemongrass, lemon myrtle, litsea cubeb are ALL CITRAL RICH OILS, yet each has a different aroma- which is because of the OTHER COMPOUNDS, besides CITRAL, which are different 2.. Rose Oil, Palmarosa and oil of Geranium- all have GERANIOL. Yet Rose Oil is VERY EXPENSIVE 3.. All mints [arvensis, piperita] [comman names- cornmint, peppermint, sprearmint] have a degree of MENTHOL, alongwith other minor compounds, which are different 4.. An aldehyde active group [e.g. citral] is NOT AS STABLE AS an alcoholic group [e.g. citronellol], specially in contact with water, so a judicious choice ought to be made for any given application Regards Gurpreet
