Guest guest
Thank You to everyone who helped me with my URGENT Question post. You are all so wonderful and encouraging, I do appreciate it. Well here is how things went: I was making it for the second time ever. A friend who never made soap was cleaning the kitchen while I made the soap. I measured everything and put on my safety items. I used the crisco, water and lye recipe. I do not know how but I ended up with a grain of Lye in my mouth and one on my arm above the safety gloves. It stung just a little bit so I was glad to know what it felt like and not to be injured so it did increase my confidence. After that I took the lye mixture outside because of the fumes. I brought it back in after just a minute or so because I was afraid the animals would get into it. Well I know I have a stick blender somewhere but both of us looking together could not find it. So I dicided to take turns with her stiring it by hand. During her turn I looked up on the internet an artice about " False Trace " , it said to put the mixture in a sink filled with ice while you stir it to bring it to a trace. The article also said that this method does not work with FO/EO or other additives (I was going to add oatmeal)which turned out perfect because after choosing not to add the FO and Oatmeal I found out that the FO I choose to use was not skin safe, it was for candles. Just to let you know using the false trace method does cause a false trace almost immeadiately. I was shocked and afraid of ruining my batch. So I had to scoop and plop the soap into the mold. I was scared but I just continued as I did not know what else to do. It was physically painful to wait the 48 hours before taking the soap out of the mold. I could not wait for the 4 muffins I made and took them out early. They all turned out the same way. Most of it kept shape but some of the tips cracked off. I dont know why the only thing I can think of is that I peeled the mold off when maybe I should have froze it first. I am not sure, What do you think? PLMK Later on today I am going to cut it up and a friend of mine suggested that I use some Melt and Pour colored soap for the frosting so I will let you all know how it turns out. I will try to get my hubby to upload a pic for everyone to see. Thank you all agian for all of the help and I will keep everyone posted. Also anyone who wants to swap some out PLMK.
