Guest guest
Mitch, If the Zyban or Wellbutrin don't work, try Prozac...really. It may work if the others don't. The problem with Prozac more so that the others is that you will have to wean off it slowly. Talk with the MD and be sure that he/she writes the script for smoking and not depression if you think that may be a problem with your work medical qualifications. Mike >>> lisamitch50@... 01/31/2006 08:38 >>> All, Just thought that I would drop this into the list for your info. On the 26th of March 2006 Scotland will be going " Smoke free " , this includes all areas around and within airports and helicopter departure / arrivals areas. Therefore (for those of us who smoke) we will no longer be able to smoke inside any building or outside of the heliports. I have been informed that there will be designated areas where smokers will be able to go and kill themselves, however these areas have not been designated as yet, and by all accounts will be a 3 sided shack some distance away from non smokers. I'm just trying to put the message out so that when smokers turn up at the heliport and think they have got a quick 10 mins to go for a last fag before departure, it might not be that simple. Those of us going via Broomfield house have little time after getting of the plane to cram a cancer stick down our throats as it is, and after the 26th of March we may have to go " Offsite " to kill ourselves. So be aware guys, if you smoke the law is changing. Me, ill be looking into some hard drugs (Zyban) to help me quit the stick. http://search.scotland.gov.uk/search/pages/search/basic.asp?QuerySubmit=true & Pag\ e=1 & LastQuery=Smoking & QueryText=Smoking+law Have a look. Guest guest
Mitch, a small word of caution. When Zyban was introduced for nicotine withdrawal a few yeras ago there was discussion within the oil company doctors about it's ability to lower the seizure threshold by a factor of 10. (IIRC the risk is about 1:1000 of a seizure). Because of this some were not as keen to have it on their installations. Things may have changed but probably worth checking with the operators medical advisor before you start Greg <lisamitch50@...> wrote: All, Just thought that I would drop this into the list for your info. Guest guest
Hi Greg, a while since we spoke to each other. It would greatly help all medics if there was a standard set in the North Sea for things like Zyban. As you are only to aware it varies from company to company. I know that in Spain (lived there for the last 6 years) Doctors will not precribe Zyban for Nicotine Withdrawal for the exact reasons you have stated as my wife found out when she decided to quit. We both did the Hyponotherapy routine and it has been a total success. Mitch, the guys working in Spain need to be very careful, there has been a huge crack down on the type of practice that some of the guys are thinking about. regards Neil Poole Abermed Industrial Docters Elgin/lin GREG IRONS <greg.irons@...> Sent by: 01/02/2006 08:58 Please respond to cc: Subject: Re: Smoking!!! Guest guest
I agree that standard advice would be of benefit but there is no longer a UKOOA HAC for the various operators to discuss and publish it. UKOOA now has a single medical advisor (Dr Goodge of RSOH). Remember anything medical from UKOOA is still " guidance " so any medical advisor/operator can come to their own decision (but should be able to justify it). Many of the North Sea Medical advisors sit on the Energy Institute Health Technical Committee which UKOOA also attends. Perhaps that might be the route to take if you fancy it. I'm no longer involved in the North Sea having moved on another position in London so can't bring it up myself. (I'm still in oil and gas though) Greg medic.PUQ@... wrote: Hi Greg, a while since we spoke to each other. Guest guest
When the devolution act came in,one unusual thing, was the adoption of the European Human rights legislation as a BASE FOR THE ACT. Rigs may be exempt, but how long before someone brings a case under the EHRA saying that he is discriminated against, and should get the same rights to avoid second hand smoke that he is entitled to on the mainland. day one or two I reckon. some numpty(scotttish for complete idiot),did the same against a bridge project as his view was being ruined!the case was dismissed, but during the delay due to the case, the cost of steel went up,and the scottish taxpayer had to stump up a couple of million pounds extra! think the cost to the numpty was a sod all. the 2 main places that are exempt are prison and mental health facilities-so just light up,and you will be placed in one of these facilities where you can continue your habit. is it just me that finds this weird? fraser --- Alan Hurry - Horizon Training Solutions Ltd <alan@...> wrote: > Hi Mike, > > General information on the subject can be found at > the following website - > www.clearingtheairscotland.com where the guidance > section also contains > other useful stuff for download.
