Sex workers library and resource centre

The Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (Kolkata) is an organisation

of 60,000 sex workers and their children. We run the world-renown

Sonagachi Project and have successfully replicated the Sonagachi

Model of STD/HIV intervention, among brothel-based and street-based

sex workers in 46 sex work locations in West Bengal (India).

We are in the process of starting our own library and resource

centre, the " Manadasundari Gronthagar o Gobeshonagar " . We aim to

have a large section of our library devoted to writings on sex

work, sex workers and writings by sex workers on various topics

including biographies, sex work and rights issues, reminiscences,

sociological and anthropological studies and different training

modules and toolkits on sex work, STIs, HIV/AIDS and PLWHA.

We appeal to individuals, publishers and organisations to share

their materials and resources on the above subject(s). We would

welcome copies of reports and toolkits and acknowledge

organisations/individuals who send them. We would also be glad if

all of you, who read this, could email us lists of books/resources

and information on how to acquire them, and we'll try and procure

them, resources permitting. We would also like to have information

on any rare book/pamphlet/poster/flyer relating to sex work, sex

workers' rights, etc. In such cases, we would try and get them

photocopied or copied otherwise and acknowledge the source.

We are taking this opportunity to appeal to all organisations and

specifically to global and Indian sex workers' organisations to come

forward and assist us in this venture.
