Guest guest
Another point to bear in mind, unless you are doing your course via a recognised provider you will not get 'hands on' experience at an NHS hospital (unless you want to pay about £200 - 400 per day for the honour) which is an HPC requirement. The big obstacle of course is achieving the actual hands on experience. It takes the average NHS Technician / Paramedic years & is definately not achievable in 6 weeks. How long does it take to become a UK Paramedic Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 18:52:43 +0000 (GMT) There are essentially two routes ( for civilians ) to becoming a Paramedic in the UK - 1) A three year BSC hons degree course, during which you do your basic technician training, driver training and then go on to your paramedic qualification, you get your on the road experience during the academic holidays working as a trainee under supervision for a statutory ambulance service, 2) You join a British ambulance service as a trainee EMT, it usually takes eighteen months to qualify as a tech, then it's normally a minimum of 1 - 2 years on the road before doing the normally 3 months pre course reading, passing the pre - paramedic course assessment, 6 - 8 weeks classroom training and 4 weeks hospital placement. There are however some military medics who have gained their paramedic qualification through an arrangement with the Hpc. All UK Paramedics have to be registered with the British Health Professions Council and unless registered are not permitted by law t o use the title 'Paramedic' or work as a paramedic. I can't imagine that there's anyway someone could do a six week course then get registered as a paramedic in the uk - definitely if starting from scratch, it may be possible for an NHS trained and qualified emt with the appropriate experience but they'd still have to get their hospital time in and get the course recognised by the HPC - A bit general but hope it helps, tell your mate there's no shortcuts I'm afraid...... Guest guest
With the question How long does it take to become a UK Paramedic? are we assuming that the originator is in the UK and with no previous? The HPC WILL accept International assimulation whereby he holder of an equivilent international qualification, with proven clinical exposure can obtain an HPC Registration...... I for one am looking to go down that route in the very near furtue, once I've collated my portfolio using my Australian Paramedic qualification.....
