Early childhood caries basically are caused by two different aetiology -1. Is by bottle feeding and also night time breast feeding (as breast milk contains lactose) affecting mostly maxilliary incisors and in severe cases maxilliary primary molars are also affected. This is Nursing bottle caries or Bottle mouth caries. In this situation the mandibular teeth are protected by the tongue and saliva.

2. unknown causes but there is extensive and rapid spread of caries in both primary and permanent teeth.there is no prescribed pattern it spreads very fast unlike nursing bottle caries. 3.it is by frequent intake of drugs with sugar suspension

Nursing bottle ca is in children only having high suger intake, upper teeth are typically effected, starting with incisors. Lower teeth are usually spared by tongue and saliva action. Rx- advice, suger free supplement, F rinse, in poor prognosis ever extraction of 1' dentition. Rampant caries is extensive gross caries,wffecting all tooth both in afult and childern cam occur. Reason may b diet, OH, radiation, sjogren syndrome, any other salivary gland problem.rx- treat the underlying cause. Referance- pink book & cawson oral patho.
