: Hey, my sister pays big bucks for collagen to get this look! (Oops.

Saucer of milk for two! Meow!)

I don't have any advice but just want to say I've been keeping up with your

updates and thinking of you alot and sending my thoughts and prayers your

way. The only thing I know about latex allergy is there are at least a couple

foods that can cause a reaction as well (bananas I think??) but then, does

take any solids anymore? (:( ) Maybe something in his supplement?

Is that supplement milk-based? I'm convinced a LOT of kids have intolerances

to milk. Kate is soooo sensitive, was too... I don't recall ever having

any problems with dairy.

Funny story -- my other sister (not the collagen/botox one) has two little

kids and was saying her kids " don't tolerate " milk either. I found this

fascinating, as I am curious about food intolerances and allergies and such,

but upon probing further I discovered they " like chocolate milk but just

won't drink regular milk at all " . Well, no kidding! If I was offered a choice

between chocolate and plain I think I'd not " tolerate " the plain either! Hee

hee hee.

Hope 's still holding up and 's tummy pain is lessening... and

that you can get a few moments of peace -- you need it!

Take care --

There are foods that have a cross reference allergy to latex. The top three are

bananas, avacodos, chestnuts. There are medium cross over foods, and low cross

over ones too. Most fruits, melons, strawberries, and potatoes and tomatoes are

in the medium list. Can't remember the low list right now. I have the list

written down somewhere though, if you are interested I'll post it for you. Kody

has problems with the cross reference foods, bananas in particular (since he

doesn't eat chestnuts or avacodo's!). Since we cut banana's out of his diet his

GERD is one hundred percent better!

From: Beth, Mom to Wade,16(CVID,etc.)

Hi Diane,

OK..I'm confused (no news flash there)...are you saying that there is a

connection between latex allergy/sensitivity & GERD/reflux? Wade eats alot

of bananas, no avocados unless it's in guacamole & that's rare, no

chesnuts, few tomatoes but he does eat quite a bit of fruit & potatoes. He

does tend to try to avoid alot of the high acid fruits for obvious reflux

reasons but we actually encourage starches, bananas, etc. to help off-set the

diarrhea-constipation cycle that is supposedly from the Irritable Bowel

Syndrome. I'm just curious about the latex conncetion because Wade does

react strongly to most dressings Tegaderm,Opsite, etc.) & alot of tapes. Thanks

for any clarity you can provide for me!

How's Kody? Have you gotten any more answers? How is he handling being out

of school? Is the poop situation any better? Please tell Batman 1 that

Batman 2 says " Hi! " & that Batman 2's Mom STILL loves him!! Hugs & Kisses to

Kody from us!

Beth

Hi Beth! LOL!! Well, there is a connection for Kody. If you have a latex

allergy (or sometimes even sensitivity) then the foods that cross reference

allergy to latex can cause either an allergic reaction or make you sick. In

Kody's case it reacted in such away that he had reflux. I am sure that it could

probably cause other gastro reactions as well. Also with Kody, taking the

banana's out of his diet made an immediate difference. When he does have one

even now he'll start refluxing stomach acid up into his throat and he'll

complain of tummy pain. At the time we found this out, Kody ate at least 3

banana's a day, they were his favorite! When we were at U of M for his ph probe,

the doctors there told us about this cross reference allergy to certain foods.

As for his poop problems, they seem to still be there and he's having pee

accidents now too. His MRI was normal, found that out today. His doctor thinks

that he is regressing. Don't know why. But we are still keeping him home the

rest of the year while we deal with this. He does okay if I tell him to go in

and go potty, but he is severely constipated day after day and then suddenly

he'll go alot. I think that is the Miralax working, I don't dare have him stop

taking that yet I don't want another impaction! Neither does he! He is

regressing in learning too, some things he used to know he no longer knows, and

he isn't making any progress at all. Tonight I have to go to his IEP to set up

the homebound schooling for him. Good news is, it will be his own special ed

teacher coming to teach him here. I like that, I think he'll do better with

someone he knows and trusts. At the moment we are battling an awful infection.

A balanitis infection on his penis. Weird thing is, usually those happen in

uncircumcised boys/men or men/boys with diabetes. Kody is circumcised and as far

as I know he does not have diabetes. It is an absolutely horrible infection, he

was swollen about 4 times bigger than normal and RAW. Since Monday I've had to

give him baths every 2 hours and alternate using slivadene cream and nystatin on

it. Today it looks much better. Swelling is down, and surrounding redness is

retreating and it looks slightly less raw now. Poor kid has been really hurting

though. He said it is " worse than pokes " ! Jeez. What next?!!!!

Thanks for the hugs!!! He needs them right now!!!

Hi Diane, It is actually a yeast infection. Lucas has them regularly. It is

an immune deficiency issue. Lucas does not build antibodies to Candida which

is interesting. It is a T cell mediated issue is what we were told. We use

cortisone 1% as well as miconazol. I have found that Nystatin can cause some

dermatitis issues so if it does not go away then you might switch to another

" zol " medicine. We get atleast 10-12 year year. Sometimes it is so swollen

and painful. It could also have to do with his pee accidents since it may

burn when he pees. Therefor holding. We take frequent baths and make sure his

penis is dried well. BARBIE ( Lucas, 7, CVID, IVIG, BIpolar etc.)

I think Cassie actually has an adhesive allergy. She has totally welted up

from the sticky tabs that were put on her for her 24 hour holter monitor for

the heart. She started with a rash then she developed welts. Well, of

course the cardiologist was almost impossible to get a hold of. I finally

was able to peel them off. They were literally glued to the skin and I

pulled some skin because they had become glued to the welts. I went to a

medical supply store and bought some unisolve(adhesive remover) and it burned

the skin real badly. I gave her benadryl and she is now resting comfortably.

I just can't wait to find out the doctor will tell me that he was unable to

get a good reading from the holter and we are going to have to repeat it.

She will just sink. I want you all to know that we are thinking of you and

sending prayers to all our sick pumpkins and hoping that all the well ones

stay healthy.

Belinda, I am so sorry for Cassie!! That is what happens to Kody when they use

Tegaderm. And we do think it is the adhesive too. Poor kid!!! Praying it doesn't

have to be repeated and also praying that the results are GOOD!
