Guest guest
The risks have been minimized as much as possible, there is some discomfort, especially for the first implant, but the benefits of having an ICD far outweigh the problems. The EP should discuss the implant with you before the procedure. He/she should tell you where the ICD will go and when he might implant it subpectorally. Get all your questions answered before the procedure. It helps to take some of the edge off if you know what to expect. Guest guest
Dude, I am 42 and received an implant last year, under the skin and if I had been given the choice I would have had it implanted under the muscle. I have two young kids and when ever we play they are alway head butting me rite in the implant. Plus, I am tall and thin and you can clearly see the outline of my ICD. You sound like a big enough guy so you might have more meat on your bones to protect and cushion your ICD. Good luck, Phil in FL. > > I'm 41 I've been told to have an icd implant because of dcm an ef of 35 > and nonsustained pvc's. I am very active with heavy weight training, what I call cardio and venture onto the wrestling mat occasionally. No live wrestling. The second was implanted sub pectorally and only lasted a week before the alarm went off signaling the lead malfunction. Now this is only my opinion ... if your athletic do not go sub pectorally. Cosmetically it looks better, but I believe the more active a person is ...could cause problems. I am going on my fifth month and so far so good. Good Luck and keep thefaith!
